However, its sales have been declining due to the spread of inexpensive mass-produced products, etc. KABA was established with the hope of improving this situation, enhancing the skills of young craftspeople, and contributing to the succession and development of traditional crafts.

In Japan, we use the word “baka” to mean extraordinary. Tsugaru-nuri is also known as “BAKA-nuri” because it is carefully made with a great deal of time and effort. The name “KABA” is derived from the word BAKA turned upside down.
